Somatic comes from the ancient Greek somat meaning body.

Somatic Counseling works with the body to release limiting beliefs. These one-on-one sessions are an alternative to traditional psychotherapy. Together we build a safe container to explore the depths. The result is freedom, empowerment and a greater mind-body connection. Sessions include dialogue, mindfulness, touch, movement and the exploration of sensation.

How does it work?
All of our memories and experiences are stored in the body and shape how we navigate through life. Moment to moment we’re unaware how our past is running the show behind the scenes. In order to shift limiting beliefs Somatic Counseling uses mindfulness and the exploration of felt sensation to uncover what is usually submerged. We create a great deal of safety for the subconscious so that change is possible.

 

What does a session look like?


  • Every session is unique and meets you in the moment
  • There might be movement, touch, vocalization
  • the work is informed by Hakomi and ReCreation of Self
  • Restorative Yoga may be incorporated and you’ll have tools for a home practice
  • Rather than assess dysfunction we delve in with curiosity and a great love for the human experience
  • Rather than problem solve we drop into present time experience, bodily sensations and memories with acceptance, curiosity and loving presence
  • We draw on the therapeutic relationship as a source of insight and healing
  • Sessions can be playful– humor is powerfully healing!
  • You’ll leave with homework to support integration
  • We trust unfolding as guided by your body’s wisdom

Somatic Counseling Sessions are 50 minutes and are scheduled weekly for ongoing work
